Abstract

Methods and systems for the joint processing of vegetable oil and diesel oil to give a hybrid diesel biofuel composition have been described above. As stated before, in some embodiments the present invention is directed to methods / systems in which a mixture of vegetable oil and petroleum diesel is jointly processed in two stages: The mixture is first subjected to hydrotreatment to give an intermediate hybrid with lower amount of sulfur and then the intermediate hybrid is processed in an isomerization unit to give a low cloud point hybrid diesel product that is partially derived from biomass. A notable benefit of at least some of those methods / systems is that removal between H2S and NH3 stages is not required between the hydrotreatment and isomerization stages, where such benefit is granted by sulfur and nitrogen tolerant isomerization catalysts. .
