Abstract

The prosthesis consists of a diaphysal splint (1), from which extend three pins (2, 3, 4) for fitting in the intra-cervical portion of the femur (8). The splint can have an enlarged upper portion to which the pins are secured, and a lower portion for fixing to the diaphysis of the femur. The pin mounting points can be at the corners of an equilateral triangle, in the centre of which is a tapped hole (5). The angle between the pin axes and the splint can be equal to that between the femur cervix and diaphysis. Pin length can vary to suit the anatomy of the patient.
