Abstract

The durometer is used medically to test the harness of bone and tissue and comprises an elongated housing with an inlet for compressed air. This fills a compartment and operates a piston attached to a rod. Air pressure is indicated by a gauge at the side. The rod has a 40 deg. included angle cone penetrator, with a radiused point of 0.2 mm. The rod moves in the housing, on penetration of the point, and this movement is relayed by a transversal pin onto the plunger of a side-mounted dial gauge.
