Abstract
1,252,290. Cathode ray tubes. MATSUSHITA ELECTRIC INDUSTRIAL CO. Ltd. 24 Dec., 1968 [28 Dec., 1967; 13 Sept., 1968], No. 61287/68. Heading H1D. A recording cathode ray tube has a rectangular slot 1 formed in the face of an envelope bulb 2 over which is adhesively bonded a thin faceplate 6 having a fluorescent coating 4 covered by a conductive layer 5 thereon, and a continuous projection or step 8 is formed round the edge of the slot to prevent adhesive 7 from the seal entering the slot. A metal inner coating 3 of bulb 2 extends over the walls of the slot to make contact with the metal backing layer 5. As shown the projection is integral with the tube envelope, but in an alternative arrangement, Figs. 5, 6, 7 (not shown), the thin glass or mica faceplate is sealed first to a stepped intermediate glass member with a slot corresponding to that in the bulb. The metal backing layer coating the luminescent layer also covers the slot in the glass member and a resilient metal fitting may be incorporated to conductively connect the faceplate backing layer to the bulb inner metal coating.
