Abstract
885,036. Surgical puncture devices. ALLEN & HANBURYS Ltd. Dec. 1, 1959 [Dec. 10, 1958], No. 39893/58. Class 81 (2). An instrument for puncturing the skin comprises a number of needles 7 removably retained in passages in a block 5 by a screw 9, the block being slidable in a tubular body 1 so that, when projected, the needles can penetrate the skin of the patient. Movement of the block 5 is limited by an inwardly directed flange 2 on the bottom of the body 1 and the length of the stroke, and thus the depth of penetration, is determined by rotating a sleeve 12 which has studs 11, 17 engaging the block and a helical groove in the body. A presser foot and guide 14 is attached to the outer sleeve by extension pieces 16. When the instrument is being used the block 5, carrying the needles, is pressed down, relative to the body, by a plunger 22 which is thrust downwards by a spring 21, this being first compressed by manual pressure and then released by automatic disengagement of a retaining catch.
