JOHN C. 190018.111, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
NURSING-BOTTLE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 3, 1912'.
Application filed April 18, 1911. Sci-19.1 No. 621,880.
may enter thereinto as milk is withdrawn therefrom.
Another object of the invention is to provide a perfectly sanitary nursing bottle so .constructed that the inside thereof may be readilyd-gotten at that it may be properly cleanse Still another object of the invention is to provide a sectional nursing bottle either section of which may be replaced if one part thereof should'be broken or lost.
With the above and other objects in view which will hereinafter follow I have invented the bottle' illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which:
Figure 1 is a longitudinal sectional view of my improved bottle. Fig. 2 is an elevational view of a separable member thereof. Fig. 3 is a bottom plan vie-wthereof. Fig. 4 is a view similar to Fig. 1 showing a modified form of the invention. Fig. 5 is an elevation of a conical member, and Fig. 6 is a bottom plan view'of Fig. 4. e
Like reference characters indicate like parts throughout the specification and in the accompanying drawings in which- 1 indicates a bottle provided with a separable bottom 2 which consists of a conical -member 3 which is provided with a small opening 4 at its apex 5. This cone may extend to any desired height in the bottle. On the lower portion of the conical member 3 extending centrally thereof and inclining.
toward the bottom of the bottle is a flange 6 forming a circumferential channel, 7 which is adapted to catch any particles that may adhere to the bottom of the bottle and revent them entering the bottle when it is old in an inclined position. The end 8 of the member-2 is upturned and screw threaded at 9 to the screw threaded portion 10 of the bottle 1 the entire conical member entering the bottle. A gasket 11 is sealed between the lower edge 12 of the bottle and the member 2 to prevent leakage. The conical bottom I member may be made of some metal such as aluminum, for instance, or may be made of glass or earthenware as desire Y Y In Figs. 4 and 5 is illustrated a modification of the invention in which the conical member 13 made of a flexible substance such as rubber and is secured to the bottle 14 by turning its lower edge 15 up over the rim 16 of the lowermost portion of the bottle.
This invention is also provided with a flange 17 and an opening 18 in the apex 19 of the conical member 13. i
It is a welllmown fact that wind colic in children is caused by' the swallowing a lar e amount of air in the efforts to suck mil from a bottle where there is no provision made for air to replace the withdrawn milk. The child in its efforts to overcome the vacuum and suck out the milk often sucks air into its mouth from the outside of a nipple. My improved bottle will overcome this difliculty by admitting air into the bottle through the apertures as the milk is withdrawn from the nipple. By moving the conical bottom the bottle may be cleansed. A thorough cleansing of the bottles in present use is a very diflicult matter and-on this account they are not always cleaned as well as they should be resulting often in sickness to the child using the bottle and sometimes in its death.
Having described my invention that which I claim to be new and desire to procure by Letters Patent is:
1. A nursing bottle having a separable bottom said bottom being conical in form and having an opening in the apex thereof means on said bottom for preventing foreign substances from entering said opening said means consisting of an inclined flange, forming a channel around the inner surface of said bottom.
2. A nursing bottle having its bottom end entirely open, a screw cap or said bottom, a conical tube projecting inwardly from said cap, means whereby foreign substance will be prevented from entering through saidtube, said means consisting of a flange on said tube.
'In testimony whereof I affixmy signature in presence of two witnesses.
' JOHN C. POORE.
