FIG. 1 is a side view of the apparatus installed. -
FIG. 2 is a perspective view of the apparatus. - Referring to the invention in more detail,
FIG. 1 shows thetrim piece 100 installed onto a building.Trim piece 100 is installed overroof elements 120, continues downward past thefascia board 150, under thesoffit 160 and continues to the side wall of thebuilding 140. - Referring now to the trim piece in more detail
FIG. 2 shows the preferred embodiment. Roof nailer 10 is the section of the trim piece intended to fit over roof decking.Side piece 20 is the vertical section of the trim piece extending downwards fromroof nailer 10.First drip feature 30 is shown and provides an angled section that encourages fluids to drip off ofside piece 20. Corner 40 transitions the trim piece from a vertical section to a horizontal section, and in the preferred embodiment has an additional feature that forbids water from traveling fromside piece 20 to horizontal piece 45. In the figure, said additional feature is the use of two additional ninety degree bends. Horizontal section 45 is shown and extends fromcorner 40 to the end of the trim piece.FIG. 2 shows the trim piece in the installed shape, where the trim piece has been folded atbends 80 to fit the particular soffit length. - Still referring to the trim piece shown in
FIG. 2 , v-bend 50 is shown. V-bend 50 is a feature that is used to channel condensation, and is also added to provide additional rigidity for the trim piece.FIG. 2 shows two instances of v-bend 50, but more or less v-bends may be used.Weep holes 60 are sections of material that have been removed from v-bends 50 that allow for condensation drainage. The preferred embodiment uses ⅛″ holes every six feet. - Still referring to the trim piece shown in
FIG. 2 , vent holes 70 are shown. Vent holes 70 are generally a series of holes placed long horizontal section 45 that allow for ventilation of the building through the trim piece after the trim piece is installed.Final section 90 is shown and is the end piece of horizontal section 45 that is fastened to the wall of the building after horizontal section 45 is bent alongbends 80. - The preferred embodiment is a trim piece made from steel having a corrosion resistant aim. zinc alloy applied by a continuous hot-dip process. One such product has the trade name Galvalume.
- The advantages of the present invention include, without limitation, a trim piece that encapsulates the roof decking, soffit and fascia, such that a building has additional protection from wind and rain.
- in broad embodiment, the present invention is a single trim piece that may be installed on a building to encapsulate the roof decking, soffit and fascia of a building.
- While the foregoing written description of the invention enables one of ordinary skill to make and use what is considered presently to be the best mode thereof, those of ordinary skill will understand and appreciate the existence of variations, combinations, and equivalents of the specific embodiment, method, and examples herein. The invention should therefore not be limited by the above described embodiment, method, and examples, but by all embodiments and methods within the scope and spirit of the invention.
