Abstract

The invention relates to a keyboard, cover and stand I for a Tablet X having a rear face Z and front screen face Y A substantially planar and rectangular base member (2) is provided supporting a keyboard (3) on one face. A substantially planar and rectangular cover member (5) is provided having an edge (5A) hinged to the edge (2A) of the base member which can fold into a first position over the flat base member to cover the keyboard, the cover member including at least two fold lines to fold the cover member into an elongate triangular structure to lie in a second position adjacent the edge of the base member. In use the base member (2) with the cover member in the first position forms a cover for a Tablet screen face, and the base member with the cover member (5) in the second position allows a Tablet to be supported on its rear face at an inclined angle by the triangular structure of the cover member with the keyboard of the base member extending in front of its front screen face.

Description

Title: Keyboard, Cover and Stand
The present invention relates to a keyboard, cover and stand especially for a "Tablet".
It is known to provide small portable computers with a touch screen such as a "Tablet", e.g. an "I-Pad" (trade mark of Apple Corporation). If it is desired to type on the screen, a virtual keyboard is displayed on the touch screen. The virtual keyboard is not tactile and cumbersome to use, especially if typing large amounts of text. Also such tablets have a no cover and the screen can easily become soiled or damaged. Furthermore, in use if not held in the hand, the Tablet needs to be laid flat on a surface or vertical on its edge, which does not form an ideal viewing angle for the screen.
The invention seeks to provide a solution to this problem.
According to the present invention there is provided a keyboard, cover and stand for a Tablet having a rear face and front screen face comprising:
a) a substantially planar and rectangular base member supporting a keyboard on one face, and b) a substantially planar and rectangular cover member having an edge hinged to the edge of the base member which can fold into a first position over the flat base member to cover the keyboard, said cover member including at least two fold lines to fold the cover member into an elongate triangular structure to lie in a second position adjacent the edge of the base member, in use the base member with the cover member in the first position forming a cover for a Tablet screen face, and the base member with the cover member in the second position allowing a Tablet to be supported on its rear face at an inclined angle by the triangular structure of the cover member with the keyboard of the base member extending in front of its front screen face.
Preferably the cover ember includes at least one strip of magnetic material to hold the cover member into a triangular structure. Preferably the cover member has three folds lines dividing the cover member into four panels, and two end panels overlap when the cover member is folded into the triangular structure.
An embodiment of the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings in which:
Figure 1 shows a perspective view with the cover member in the first position, and
Figure 2 shows a perspective view with the cover member in the second position.
Referring to the drawings there is shown a Tablet X having a front screen face Y and rear face Z such as an "I-Pad" as is well known in the art. .
In accordance with the invention there is provided a keyboard cover and stand I for Tablet X. A substantially planar and rectangular base member 2 is provided supporting a keyboard 3 on one face, and has a bottom face 4. Base member 2 has a rear edge 2A.
A substantially planar and rectangular cover member 5 is provided having a rear edge 5A edge hinged to the rear edge 2A of the base member 2 by a hinge 6. Cover member 5 can fold into a first position over the base member 2 to cover the keyboard 3 (see Figure 1 ). In this first position the base member and cover member can be placed over the front screen face Y of Tablet X to protect it with the bottom face 4 of the base ember abutting the screen face Y.
Cover member 5 has three fold lines 7A,7B,7C to divide the cover into four rectangular panels 8A,8B,8C, 8D. Panel 8A includes metallic material 9A and panel 8D includes magnetic material 9D attracted to metallic material 8A. Cover member 5 can be folded into an elongate triangular structure to lie in a second position adjacent the edge of the base member as shown in Figure 2. In this position panel 8A overlaps panel 8D and the magnetic material 9D attracted to metallic material 9A holds the cover member in the triangular structure.
A channel 10 is formed between the base member 2 and cover member 5 (when folded in the triangular structure) into which can be placed the bottom edge of Tablet X so that its rear face Z is supported at an inclined angle by the triangular structure of the cover member with the keyboard 3 of the base member extending in front of its front screen face Y.
The cover member 5 and base member 2 may be formed from plastics material. The invention may take a form different to that specifically described above.
Further modifications will be apparent to those skilled in the art without departing from the scope of the present invention.

Claims

1. A keyboard, cover and stand for a Tablet having a rear face and front screen face comprising:
a) a substantially planar and rectangular base member supporting a keyboard on one face, and b) a substantially planar and rectangular cover member having an edge hinged to the edge of the base member which can fold into a first position over the flat base member to cover the keyboard, said cover member including at least two fold lines to fold the cover member into an elongate triangular structure to lie in a second position adjacent the edge of the base member, in use the base member with the cover member in the first position forming a cover for a Tablet screen face, and the base member with the cover member in the second position allowing a Tablet to be supported on its rear face at an inclined angle by the triangular structure of the cover member with the keyboard of the base member extending in front of its front screen face.
2. A keyboard, cover and stand according to claim 1, wherein the cover ember includes at least one strip of magnetic material to hold the cover member into a triangular structure.
3. A keyboard, cover and stand according to claim 1 or 2, wherein the cover member has three folds lines dividing the cover member into four panels, and two end panels overlap when the cover member is folded into the triangular structure.
4. A keyboard, cover and stand substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to and as shown in the accompanying drawings.
