UMD faculty in QuICS are appointed from UMIACS, the Computer Science Department, the Physics Department, and related departments. NIST faculty in QuICS are appointed from the Applied and Computational Mathematics Division, the Computer Security Division, the Quantum Measurement Division, and related divisions. We welcome inquiries from researchers interested in joining the Center.
QuICS is currently seeking outstanding quantum information researchers to join the Center faculty as QuICS Fellows. QuICS is a research partnership between the University of Maryland (UMD) and the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), with faculty from both institutions. Accordingly, applicants will be considered for tenure-track positions at UMD, and those who are US citizens may also be considered for permanent employment as researchers at NIST.
Located at the University of Maryland, College Park, just outside of Washington, D.C., the Center advances research and education in quantum computer science and quantum information theory. Ongoing projects at QuICS include theoretical and experimental research on quantum algorithms, quantum complexity theory, quantum communication, quantum error correction and fault tolerance, quantum-enhanced metrology, quantum cryptography and quantum-secure cryptography, implementations of quantum information processing, foundations of quantum mechanics, applications of quantum information to physics, and more.
QuICS Fellows are expected to lead externally funded research groups and carry out cutting-edge research on quantum information. The QuICS Fellows work together to set the direction of the Center, including a robust visitor program, frequent conferences and workshops, Center-funded fellowships for outstanding graduate students and postdoctoral scholars, and courses on quantum information topics.
Interested candidates are encouraged to apply to an ongoing faculty search at the University of Maryland:
Candidates can also email quics-coordinator@umiacs.umd.edu indicating their interest in being considered as a possible QuICS Fellow.
