1990 Malaysian general election
General elections were held in Malaysia on 20 and 21 October 1990. People voted in 180 parliamentary constituencies, each choosing one Member of Parliament for the Dewan Rakyat, the main house of Parliament.[1] State elections were also held in 351 constituencies in 11 states (except Sabah and Sarawak) on the same day.
Barisan Nasional (BN) won at the federal level and in most states. However, in Kelantan, the opposition alliance Angkatan Perpaduan Ummah (APU) won all 39 state seats, with 24 going to PAS and 15 to Semangat 46.[2]
After winning the election, Mahathir Mohamad continued to serve as Prime Minister.
