this was so much better than the first book and Tristian Caine HOLY OMG HE SO ADORABLE WITH HER IT'S SO CUTE LSAJDLJSDF
(view spoiler)[ although i will not lie, i wished the author made it more clear about how luna ended up because we still don't know if she's alive or dead or anything and a small part of me wished that tristian would say the i love you back to morana. he's still progressing to say his words to her (and morana was so so patient with him i love her sm) and he defo shows how much he loves her but at the epilogue with his pov in it, HE KNEW HE LOVED HER BUT AHHHH I JUST WISHED ONE DAY HE WOULD SAY IT TO HER. but, it is so clear he is absolutely in love with her and this is one of the rare books where i felt as if both loved each other equally rather than the guy loving the girl more or vice versa. i loved tristian and morana so much, i don't think i can let go of this series now...more

I'm sorry but I have no time to write a review for this because I'm reading the next book right now. You guys will all know what it feels like to just have to read the next book. Well, that's happening to me now.
this definitely felt short even though it was like 700+ pages but i also read this for the mention of dragons, finding out that the dragons 3.75 stars
this definitely felt short even though it was like 700+ pages but i also read this for the mention of dragons, finding out that the dragons only appear for 2% of the book? kind of disappointed and sometimes the lines or the dialogues kind of felt cringe.
but it was a fluffy read if you're looking for just a casual, get into fantasy and more political drama/ tension-y enemies to lovers (he fell first and he fell harder) then you'll definitely like this ...more

"Goodnight, Dax McGuire," I call to him. "Goodnight, Gemma McGuire," he calls back. "Slip of the tongue?" He shrugs and smiles. "Something like that."
Gem"Goodnight, Dax McGuire," I call to him. "Goodnight, Gemma McGuire," he calls back. "Slip of the tongue?" He shrugs and smiles. "Something like that."
Gemma's break up that she never thought would come crushes her heart. The whole idea of having a dog, a nice little house and maybe even a baby, thrown out of the window: goodbye. To forget about everything, she uses a spell to make her love life more bearable, a fresh start. And it does happen to be a fresh start because she's woken up in another time-line where her best friend Dax doesn't know who she is and she needs him to undo the spell with a kiss within a month. And when suddenly the line between friends and lovers start to blur as she gets another chance to redo the introduction and become closer to him, she's left with the longing question she never thought she would ask herself: is falling in love with your best friend the right path, only to know her heart will be broken in the end?
Honestly, this was such a cute read. The whole setting, and the realistic side of life was shown so clearly with Gemma, her life just gone upside-down and her self growth throughout this whole book shines through. And slowly realising that her and Dax were never truly meant to just stay friends. I liked the idea of the spell and her having to go through the whole process again to befriend Dax but he's a little different than her original Dax.
Gemma really is a relatable character and I loved knowing her inside thoughts, her inner battles with herself whenever she thought her interactions with Dax were getting a little more than friends. And this book just clearly shows she'll fall in love with any different versions of Dax, even if he's in another time-line (just makes the whole "i'll love you in any universe" thing clear and adorable).
I do think that Gemma and Dax in her original time-line is much better off together, maybe because their life is more better and happier but truly, if Gemma didn't date her ex then both of them wouldn't have had a good life-style and end up together in the end. Also the self-growth in this book is so strong, as she learns to make her own decisions instead of relying on others to clarify her decisions are right.
Overall, such a cute and cozy read to get out of a reading slump...more
but the pace of the plot, started off quite slow and me waiting patiently for something to make me interested ani felt like overall, it's a nice book.
but the pace of the plot, started off quite slow and me waiting patiently for something to make me interested and then near the end of the book, it just seems rushed (but then again, i kinda understand why it felt slow because of that one bit where they try and find the fae lands)? like, the romance in here, i felt the FMC and the love interest could've even been off as friends if it wasn't for the obvious black hair and oh so handsome features, dark luscious smile, the aura, you get the vibe. i know she was convincing herself not to fall in love but it felt as if though she actually wasn't going to the path of love and then a little more than half-way through the book they get together.
it just felt a bit too forced. and the amount of doing it was just packed together. don't get me wrong, it's hella spicy and no complaints but near the end all the detailed smut every chapter was not it for me, just felt too forced. it just made it seem like, 'oh, they have to be in love so let's just put all of the spicy scenes in one go so it's impactful'.
and for a fantasy book, i thought the names were a bit too 'modern' (if you get what i mean) rather than fantasy-like? but didn't really mind much because i could actually pronounce the names in my head whilst reading instead of wondering if i was saying the names right.
and on the good side, the character banters was quite funny, i really liked all of the side characters and the book started off really strong. also the cover's gorgeous, delilah really is a strong character.
(view spoiler)[ also when the best friend easton died out of nowhere i was like, what is happening?? because i was wondering why the whole emphasis on easton and delilah being platonic soulmates and the slow pace of showing every single interaction of them together: and just for him to die off nearly at 20 something percent through the book like what :DDD (hide spoiler)]...more
someone needs to get me a rowan ASAP for christmas, it's a need at this point. the writing style wa4.75 stars
i am so in love with this book right now.
someone needs to get me a rowan ASAP for christmas, it's a need at this point. the writing style was so beautiful and enchanting like, it flowed so nicely and none of the words or the writing felt stiff and awkward. it was just so good.
the romance was to die-for, like being enemies at the start, the annoyance and the rivalry between them was immaculate!! me literally jumping around every few chapters throughout the whole book was insane and the dual pov?? hello??? my fav tropes all being dumped in one go was the best feeling ever.
"If she wasn't so exhausted and stiff from the harrowing encounter they had miraculously survived, she would have knocked away his touch. She would have slapped him. She might have kissed him."
THE QUOTES. THEIR DYNAMIC. THEIR INNER MONOLOGUES AND WHAT THEY SAY TO EACH OTHER
it was everything.
i loved the whole world building and being able to actually see iris' life progress steadily and i feel like it was the plot being able to get more more and intense and unknown and so pact together, it was written so good. with the whole war going on as well, i couldn't predict who was about to die and who was not, because war itself is unpredictable.
the romance between roman and iris was so well written, with them hating each other but then realising that slowly, they were really just falling in love. also, the things that this mad did to protect iris and save her is unbelievable. like, i was shocked. (view spoiler)[ him literally crawling even though he's bleeding and about to die, all he could think about was to get to iris and being the one to take the impact from the grenade so she would be safe, he was exactly insane. insanely in love with her. (hide spoiler)]
although the romance between them was great, i slightly felt like it was a bit forced in the middle? like, they were just hating each other and then suddenly because they didn't see each other for a while and then seeing each other again after that time period, suddenly they're like: oh my, i feel a little differently about you? i didn't mind but i felt like the connection between turning into lovers from enemies felt a bit pushy and forced, not like a smooth transition.
overall though, this was book was amazing. the PLOT!!! AND THE PLOT TWIST AT THE END OHMYGOD in need of the next book right now ...more
