Rode College, is a 2024 Indian Punjabi Language coming-of-age Socio Political Drama film written and directed by Happy Rode and produced by Ashu Arora and Etush Bansal. The film stars an ensemble cast including Manav Vij [1], Survinder Vicky, Yograj Singh, Sonpreet Jawandha, Isha Rikhi, Dhanveer Singh [2] and a bouquet of fresh new talent from the Punjabi theatre community. The film, Rode College, is loosely inspired by true events during the 1990's Punjab Militancy era and the life of students at the prestigious government colleges (Guru Nanak Govt. College & Govt. Polytechnic College) of Rode, Moga, Punjab, since the 1960s. Rode College has been known throughout its history for its ruffianism. The story that this film shows is exemplary of the kind of youth culture that Punjab has become famous for.

Narrated through two dramas, one in the 2011s and the other set twenty years in the past. The story is of friendship, vengeance, revenge, youth power, politics, culture at the central theme of the film, and is dedicated to the thoughts of revolutionary leaders during the India's struggle for Independence - Bhagat Singh & Kartar Singh Sarabha.

Plot

Janta, a prisoner, is approached by two other jail mates who are trying to work on a book on Rode College, they request Janta to tell them the real on ground details about the infamous incident of that college which was printed in all leading newspapers. Janta refuses to share any details and rethink about those traumatic incident, but the name of one of the two jail mates makes him think otherwise. Janta narrates, the planning for the big event began way in advance when heads of an intelligence agency had one on one meeting to track down a corrupt politician whose links have been traced with an underworld criminal settled in Dubai. Preet, a Special Force officer, as part of the mission to break apart youth from the political influence, takes an admission in the Govt Polytechnic College and meticulously tries to gels in with the students. He interacts and influences the college President, and helps him understand the hollowness of the assumed power, and the responsibility Deep holds being a college president. A confrontation, death of a senior, and words of wisdom hits Deep hard, and brings a change over in his personality. Half of Preet’s job is done but all his plans are crushed when egos are bruised. The tale takes a twist when an army officer and mentor of Preet, Janta (Manav Vij), joins him in his mission. Janta brings to life the adversities he and his family had faced in the early 90’s, in the hands of the militancy movement and the famed minister, working as tout then. He narrates that because of Teja a.k.a. Gurtej (Yograj Singh), his younger brother Gurdeep (Sonpreet Jawandha), turns into a militant and guns down a defamed Police officer (Tirth Charikk) as part of revenge (Inspired from real incident). Now, to safe guard themselves with elections around the corner and youth being a strong power, they decide to support an opposition party leader, Gurmukh during the election campaign. They get extreme support from the locals, but the results leave them in dismay, exposing them to more risk. With danger lurking over their heads, Janta comes to their rescue, and files a police complaint on the so called Dead Teja, exposing the past of the famed Minister, making him vulnerable and is forced to take a cover until the oath taking ceremony.
