Thank, i tried to fix <font> when i saw people to do so by using bot to replace the code of their signature. Should i also cleanup the code, at lease from the time i changed from <font> to <span> with incorrect code? Matthew_hk tc 10:47, 28 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for fixing your signature in your user preferences to keep the problem from expanding. I made a mistake before when I said your signature was causing a second lint error and I have crossed that out above.
You can change your signature to the new signature where you have left it in the past, but:
  • There are now 8,834,373 lint errors of type Obsolete HTML tags, and estimating an average of 4 per page on pages that have them at all, there are over 2 million pages on Wikipedia with these errors, so your signature is a small part of a widespread, and actually low-priority, lint error problem.
  • On hundreds of talk and user talk pages, while fixing other lint errors by hand, I have fixed old signatures, and this has not generated complaints.
  • However, BD2412 did what you propose to do and it did generate complaints along the lines of "My entire watchlist is now filled up with your edits", which I don't think is a legitimate complaint, but it's there.
  • Despite BD2412's experience, I don't think there is a rule against doing it by hand, but if it were to generate complaints, I would stop and discuss it before proceeding.
  • It's possible that a bot will eventually be created to do this in a systematic way. Or not.
  • It's good to remove lint errors from Wikipedia wherever they are, but if you really want to help the project of removing lint errors, please see Wikipedia:Linter and work on high and medium priority errors.
  • For BD2412's experience, please see the discussion at User talk:BD2412#Your signature.
Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia! —Anomalocaris (talk) 19:35, 28 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

ANI Experiences survey

The Wikimedia Foundation Community health initiative (led by the Safety and Support and Anti-Harassment Tools team) is conducting a survey for en.wikipedia contributors on their experience and satisfaction level with the Administrator’s Noticeboard/Incidents. Insight on the Removal of American Funds page

Hi Matthew hk,

I recently noticed that the American Funds page was removed and redirected to the Capital Group Companies page.

I was wondering if you would be able to shed some light on why that change was made? The note mentions that it was merged with parent company but didn't provide any insight as to what prompted the change.

As a reminder, I work for Capital Group and want to be sure to declare my COI.

Thank you in advance for the information and I hope you are doing well!

What individual WP:GNG of the subsidiary? Matthew_hk tc 21:01, 5 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Matthew,

I am writing to request the reinstatement of the American Funds Wikipedia page. In response to your question regarding general notability guidelines, I have provided key citations of significant coverage in reliable independent sources that show the individual notability of American Funds. I kindly request that you remove the deletion by redirect. I hope we can come to a consensus.

As a reminder, I work for Capital Group and want you to be aware of my COI.

"Citations" or the lack thereof are not the problem of the article. Fact is, as I indicated, nothing of it can be traced back beyond the Rede Globo piece from May 2011 - and this is solely based on what "Kaiser" says. This is not an opinion. My opinion is, what the article says is all fraud and nothing is fact. You don't present nonsense like this to unsuspecting readers. OAlexander (talk) 14:49, 19 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Shanghai Guohua Life (volleyball), you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Dunlop (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Hello Matthew, I am a bit confused with your recent edit on Crédit Agricole as I believe the page is originally talking about the bank that is on the stock exchange and not the holding group. I believe it should be reverted, Thank You KarimKoueider (talk) 15:38, 9 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The regional bank of Crédit Agricole Group were the owner of Crédit Agricole S.A. are you confuse of something? Matthew_hk tc 15:45, 9 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
The page isn't talking about the group, the page is talking about the bankKarimKoueider (talk) 16:49, 10 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Did you actually read the page content? Crédit Agricole Group had much longer history than Crédit Agricole S.A. (aka CNCA / Caisse Nationale de Crédit Agricole) Matthew_hk tc 17:59, 10 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I would really appreciate if you would reply to me with more respect and decency. Your replies have a disgusting tone of superiority and narcissism. Hi! Thanks for working on the Rodrigues page and moving it to the correct name. Do you think the sources you found are enough to denote notability? This article is confusing my brain! The sources seem to contradict, plus I know very little about football. --ElfLady64 (talk) 22:38, 23 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Probably nothing could dig out, as no google hit. He probably a teen footballer that went to Japan for a professional contract, but not actually turn to professional, since Comercial-MS and Comercial-MT were teams in state league level. Even dig out source for 2001 Campeonato Sul-Mato-Grossense champions squad of Comercial-MS, did not help much to Thiago's WP:NSPORTS notability. Matthew_hk tc 14:27, 24 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Matthew hk, thank you for your comment [1] on my draft page Draft:PPS. When creating this article, I have used a lot of time to find some reliable citations to prove the notability of the subject. However, due to its long history in Hong Kong, it seems that there isn't much secondary sources about the service. Is there any other ways to find some independent secondary source? Moreover, I'd like to know about re-writing the article with a "non-promotional tone". Any tips? Cheers – Wefk423 (talk) 08:51, 18 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding your histmerge request, do you think there was actually a cut-and-paste move somewhere in the past? In a quick look, I could not find it. Also, it will be confusing if the histmerge is to be done while there is still a copyvio template. Preferably the copyvio will be fixed before the histmerge. My suggestion would be to not bother with the histmerge, though other admins may not share this view. Thanks, EdJohnston (talk) 14:47, 18 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

You can consider Hong Kong Telecom and Cable & Wireless HKT are parallel article but without any history overlap, they are in fact the same company same legal person same brand and same business. Despite it was claimed that Cable & Wireless HKT content was merged to Cable & Wireless in 2007, i don't see any Hong Kong content left in the current version of Cable & Wireless plc. (found in Cable & Wireless Worldwide 15:15, 18 March 2018 (UTC))
Cable & Wireless HKT's article was first created in 2005 and got abandoned, while the Hong Kong Telecom and PCCW-HKT Telephone were created in 2009 and had a copyvio problem, with only some minor content was added since 2009
Since most of the content of the two articles Hong Kong Telecom and PCCW-HKT Telephone are copyvio, it may be good to wait for copyvio part, which may be hidden all the page history or delete it entirely be good? However, more or less the content history in Cable & Wireless HKT may more or less relevant to the current Hong Kong Telecom article.
Lastly Hong Kong Telecom or PCCW-HKT Telephone are in fact referring the same business group but under two legal persons; not sure why people insist to have article for Hong Kong Telephone Company (aka PCCW-HKT Telephone; 香港電話) and Hong Kong Telecommunications, (aka PCCW-HKT 香港電訊) Matthew_hk tc 15:14, 18 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Records

Hey Matthew! I noticed that both on Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi pages, there are 'records' listed as first player to do this and that but being the first to do something is as far as i know NOT a record. A record is something that other people have the chance to break/beat and for Messi and Cristiano to be the first to do something, makes it impossible for someone else to do that as well, if others do what they did, they will always be the 2nd to do so or worse as they can never ever beat that. I repeat, being the first to achieve something is not a record, and should not be listed under the records section. What's your view on this? Hope to hear back soon. New Page Reviewer granted

Hello Matthew hk. Your account has been added to the "New page reviewers" user group, allowing you to review new pages and mark them as patrolled, tag them for maintenance issues, or in some cases, tag them for deletion. The list of articles awaiting review is located at the New Pages Feed. New page reviewing is a vital function for policing the quality of the encylopedia; if you have not already done so, you must read the new tutorial at New Pages Review, the linked guides and essays, and fully understand the various deletion criteria. If you need more help or wish to discuss the process, please join or start a thread at page reviewer talk.

  • URGENT: Please consider helping get the huge backlog down to a manageable number of pages as soon as possible.
  • Be nice to new users - they are often not aware of doing anything wrong.
  • You will frequently be asked by users to explain why their page is being deleted - be formal and polite in your approach to them too, even if they are not.
  • Don't review a page if you are not sure what to do. Just leave it for another reviewer.
  • Remember that quality is quintessential to good patrolling. Take your time to patrol each article, there is no rush. Use the message feature and offer basic advice.

The reviewer right does not change your status or how you can edit articles. If you no longer want this user right, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time.
