As an app user, if I go to the website and uncheck the "Web" setting for an Echo notification type, that will also mute that notification type in the app's inbox. This is not going to be clear or coordinated between the app and web, and so we need some kind of user education for users who might find themselves in this state.
I propose that somewhere in the filter or other user preferences in the app we include a short notice and link to the web preferences. In addition we should add a clearly worded item to our on-wiki faq.
For the in app message something like "Not seeing all your messages? Turning off notifications on the web also mute them from the apps. Check your Web notification settings here.
