Google assistant not working

I'm using the watch 4 classic and would like to have Google assistant on my watch instead of Bixby. I downloaded the app on the watch, and set it as the long press function on the Home button but Bixby still activates when I long press the Home button. I double checked that it was activated on the watch and checked through the wareable app on my phone. I even set google as the default assistant app in the assistant app on the watch. I have restarted my watch and phone. Nothing seems to work.

I feel like I must be missing something basic but can't figure out what. Any ideas?
