Help, I stopped before causing more damage
Help, I stopped before causing more damage
Troubleshooting

Edit: I had to change thermal paste for thermal problems but now is even worse.

Long story short: I suspect my AIO pump died but it might just be me not mounting the coolers properly since I tried the stock one as well with poor results. I have a r7 3700x. Shouldn't a wraith prism be enough at stock frequency, regardless of airflow? In my case it isn't and IDK if I'm just that bad at mounting coolers tbh... Is wraith prism enough if mounted properly (No OC)? Assume not great PC case and airflow conditions before answering. If yes I will try to mount it again, hopefully for good until I get a new PC

Long story long:

I power limited my CPU to 65W and the clock to 2.4 (through BIOS, no software) and still hit almost 100 C in idle (both AIO and stock)

I used fancontrol for monitoring and I'm confident that's accurate. I never overclock so I tought I could just switch back to my wraith prism in basically new conditions (1 month of usage, low CPU stess at the time) but that didn't help.

I'm most likely doing something wrong when mounting the cooler because ain't no way airflow makes THAT MUCH difference... Right?

My case fans died and I can't replace them, I have one OUT on the top left, close to CPU and one IN in the bottm right, that was supposed to suck air in the case so that the radiator would cool faster, all the others are gone.

That top left one was meant to push out hot air raising from the GPU, my bottom is open but hot air raises so I think that's the best I can do with 2 fans

I will replace the entire system ASAP (except for GPU), I need to upgrade regardless but until then I need this PC and I need it stable.

Pretend I have no fans in the case because one is making noise already and I suspect it is about to break, would wraith prism be THAT BAD?

Should I use a passive cooler and just get more fans for the case instead? (yes, the fanless cooler I mean)

I'd rather wait since I have to replace the case anyways but IDK.

To answer 70% of questions: I care about stability and temps more than max performance and I don't want to do OC, I want a passive cooler because I like the idea of it being quiet but I also assume that would require more fans, defeating the purpose. Help on that? Please

Bad bluetooth connection with controllers
Bad bluetooth connection with controllers
Troubleshooting

I recently got a new PC. The motherboard is "MSI B650 GAMING PLUS WIFI - Socket AM5 - AMD B650 - DDR5 - Realtek 8125B". It comes with two receiver antenna which I put on the back on the PC and tried pointing in all kinds of directions, both the same direction and opposing directions.

My Switch Pro Controller when used via bluetooth regularly has stuck inputs or inputs not registering at all. I'm sitting within arm's reach of my PC. I almost never had this problem on my old PC, which didn't even need special receiver antennas and could still recognize my controller all the way from a different room.

PC restarts when launching a game, help is appreciated
Troubleshooting

Hey everyone, I'm sure this has been asked before and solved but I'm new here. So I built a my PC at the end of last year and have been gaming strong on it ever since. However this issue started today.

I tried to launch Cyber Punk which I've played a bunch on this PC and the screen freezes and my PC restarts. I've read that this may be a PSU issue but would a third party opinion. I've also tried launching other games I've played like FFXIV and Fall Out 4 to which the same thing happens.

Here are my specs: CPU - Ryzen 9 5900X GPU - AMD XFX Speedster MERC RX 7900XT Motherboard - MSI Pro B550M-VC Wifi RAM - Corsair Dominator Platinum RGB DDR4-3600 (2x16) CPU Cooler - NZXT Kraken Elite 240 Storage - Samsung 980 Pro 2TB, Silicon Power UD90 4TB PSU - Corsair RM850x Shift Series

Things I've done so far: -Updated Bios and reset settings -Updated GPU Drivers -Reset CPU to default -Tried to launch benchtest and PC restarts -Tried changing outlets

PC lights up with no display
Troubleshooting

When the PC is turned on all of the fans spin up, including the GPU however no output to a monitor is displayed. Another issue is that the long press on the power button doesn’t turn off the PC so I have to turn it off on the PSU. Monitor works as it lights up blue upon receiving power.

I’ve tried: Re seating the GPU Clearing CMOS Different outputs on GPU Booting without GPU but I don’t have integrated graphics(VRM’s did get warm)

Things to note: I just moved and the CPU and RAM were installed on the motherboard during shipping so I doubt it’s the motherboard as it was working perfectly before hand. Motherboard doesn’t output power to my keyboard(checked using LED’s on it).

Part list: B550 Aorus Eltie V2, 5600x, 3080 MSI, 16GB Corsair Vengence(3600Mhz), ROG 750W PSU.

Any help would be appreciated!

Cloned m.2 now both drives won’t boot
Troubleshooting

Hey there,

I cloned my normal 1tb crucial m.2 p3 plus to a 2tb Samsung 980 pro m.2 no issues using.disk genius and I fully cloned the 2 with all partitions, however when that was fully done, I shut down the computer I took out my 980 pro to put into my other pc and I changed the boot sequence and my pc just loads into safe mode and there’s nothing I can do to make it work, I put my 980 pro back into my pc with my other 1tb crucial m.2 and now that pc won’t post anymore and it has the exact same issue as my 980 pro, I’ve fully messed around with bios, changing csm, load defaults, disable secure boot, clear keys, nothing works, I’ve tried 1 m.2 one at a time in the pc and still the same issue, something online said go to your cmd prompt in the safe mode and do a bunch of methods like “bootrec /fixmbr”. And I’ve done all those methods and still nothing works when I try to use system restore in the safe mode options it says “To use system restore you must specify which windows installation to restore” it maybe thinks it has 2 windows installed or something as when I try to bootrec /rebuildBCD in the cmd promt it comes up with 2 different windows installations (c: \windows and c: \windows.old\windows) and I click yes on all of them and it says “the system cannot find the path specified”

If you have any other questions to help out please let me know I want to try get this fixed as soon as possible as I need to sell my other pc

I recently built my pc but I'm having issues with my GPU (XFX Merc 7800xt). It gets insanely loud even at 55% fan speed which is what I set the max too according to this guide. I haven't been able to enjoy a single game because of it and I'm not sure what else to do, would really appreciate any guidance as I'm new to all of this. If it helps, the game I'm trying to play is Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice and these are my specs. The PSU is a 750w be quiet pure power 12 m incase that matters.

CPU preventing access to BIOS
CPU preventing access to BIOS
Troubleshooting

I just got a Ryzen 7 5800X cpu and tried installing it onto my PC (motherboard is MSI B450 Tomahawk Max ATX AM4) but when I finished the installation and tried to boot it up a red light labeled “CPU” became activated and nothing connected to the PC (i.e. monitors, mouse, and keyboard) worked.

Everything is plugged in and I even reinstalled my old CPU (Ryzen 5 5600X) and had everything work perfectly fine. I’m really hoping it’s a BIOS issue that I need to work around and not a faulty CPU but I would really appreciate any help you guys can provide.

Additionally, with the new CPU the GPU, ram, and fans all turned on/light up, etc. but like I said, my monitors are completely black and my keyboard won’t even turn on no matter which port I plug it into so I’m not sure how I can even access BIOS to check.

Troubleshooting

Hey everyone, I wanted to upgrade my PC and did a few choice upgrades and I keep getting BSOD. Currently I am running a “Rogue Maximus Z90 Dark Hero Motherboard”, 2 amd radeon 7900s, Intel 14900ks, 2 sticks of (32)gb corsair vengeance ram. My computer crashes constantly on loop. I formatted my SSD and reinstalled Windows from a USB. Used the usb that came with the motherboard to install all of the necessary drivers. I was able to get the computer running good for a moment and installed steam, chrome, a few games and intel extreme utility. I got a BSOD and it was downhill all over again from there. I can’t even get a full login without it crashing after typing the password. I’ve tried pulling individual sticks of Ram to see if that had any effect and it did not. Please help!

Computer won’t start after some part replacements?
Computer won’t start after some part replacements?
Troubleshooting

Hey guys. I recently upgraded a few parts from my gaming PC and now I can’t get the computer to start at all.

The parts I have upgraded are:

Upgraded my msi 2070 super to a ASUS 4070 super

Added a 2 TB Samsung 990 Evo m.2 drive

And changed my case to a Cooler Master QUBE case.

I’ve put everything back together and my computer won’t power on, I tried jumping the connector to power it on and that won’t start it either (although I have never done it before so I could have done it wrong)

The mobo is getting power, a led light on it is lit up , my mobo is a ASUS - ROG STRIX B650E-F GAMING WIFI (Socket AM5) AMD B650E ATX DDR5 Wi-Fi 6E Motherboard, and it was working fine before hand, I didn’t take apart anything on the board like the cpu, cooler or RAM. One thing I have noticed is a light is blinking on the GPU, namely the LED2 is blinking at a rate of about once per second. I haven’t been able to find documentation on what it means and they don’t put much in the box, just a quick start guide.

Anyone have any idea on what I might have done wrong? Anything I can try? Thanks

Ping Problem
Ping Problem
Troubleshooting

Hello Reddit, I have been playing VALORANT recently and there's a problem where my ping stays to 200-250 for a whole game. And I know why, here's an example: I boot up my first game, and I have a stable normal of 50 ping but when I play on the same servers just after that game it then stays at 200 that next game. Although if I were to switch servers between it doesn't happen. Does anyone know what this problem is and how to fix it?

2070S + i7-10700F, GPU temperature goes up to 87 degrees when max load. Should I be worried?
Troubleshooting

It's a desktop and I have had it for close to 4 years now. Just recently cleaned the fans and dusted. Never really noticed much of performance drops since I am not a heavy gamer.

Just recently noticed that the GPU gets really hot when max load (like playing RDR2). Should I reapply paste or get something else done? Not planning to upgrade the computer maybe until GTA6 comes to PC which is probably still 2-3 years away lol.

Also it's idling at ~50 degrees. Doesn't look abnormal so maybe it's not a paste problem?

Thanks

First pc build not giving any display
First pc build not giving any display
Troubleshooting

Upon assembling my PC whose parts arrived today (Ryzen 7 5700x, rx 6750 xt, b550 tomahawk wifi max, 32 gb ram, 750w psu, 256gb ssd, 1 tb hdd) and testing it for the first time, it started to run, but gave no display and shut down after maybe 2 minutes. Before it shut down, the "EZ debug LEDs" got stuck on VGA for about 35 seconds.

Believing the (refurbished) graphics card was the issue, I tried unplugging it from the power cables which lead to a continuous VGA debug light but not shut down. I have also tried putting the GPU in the second pcie slot. After removing the m.2 SSD, the PC seems to run normal except for the lack of display, with no shutdown and the debug lights going away after a bit.

I have tried all 4 video ports with no success with a known good cable and monitor. At this point, I'm just not sure what else to try. If anyone can help, I'm very grateful.

Aorus B450 M with 2x32gb D4 Kingston 3200 CL16 wont post
Troubleshooting

Hello! I cant get my Aorus B450M to post with 2 sticks of 32gb D4 Kingston 3200. One stick is fine. Putting both sticks will resulted in the red LED cpu-1sec dram-8sec cycling without post.

Setup:

  • CPU is ryzen 5 5600g

  • Mobo bios is latest at F66

  • Manual said mobo can do 128gb (4 x 32 GB single DIMM capacity)

  • Previous setup was 2 sticks of 8gb 2666, works fine

Could it be because each of the ram is already dual rank (per cpu-z), so the 32gb single dimm x 4 is off limit?

If thats not the case, what ive tested further:

  • Both sticks of RAM are good

  • All RAM slots 4 2 3 1 on the mobo are good, tested with single stick

  • Having 2 sticks in 2 1 or 4 3 doesnt work

  • I have left they red led cycle for more than 15 mins, doesnt work

  • Enable and disabling XMP in bios - The are 2 profiles of XMP in bios, 3200 16-20-20-39-74 1.35v and 3000 16-19-19-36-69 1.35v. Both dont work

Appreciate any help

"Warm" smell after cleaning the PC
"Warm" smell after cleaning the PC
Troubleshooting

Greeting, everyone!

Today I took some time to do a long due cleanup on my PC. Took a lot of dust from it with a brush, and closed it back once it looked good enough. However, once I started to use it, me and my mother noticed a strange smell coming from it. She told me it smelled like something burning, but my perception was of something much milder, but noticeable enough.

I tried to smell it from closer up, and it appears to be coming from the CPU, but I could be wrong on that. Also, the temps are pretty normal overall (including during gaming sessions, with temps on CPU and GPU not reaching more than 65ºC under load on 3D modern games).

So... What could this smell be?

Hello reddit, i am eepy but i know not were to go with this as i am at my wits end

Ive come at long as to ask a shot in the dark of an issue i have with my windows 10 pc. When i am merely web browsing, messing in discord, or drawing in ms paint it "shuts off" by which i mean after a certain arbitrary amount of time my computer will just soft reset. Like a power outage sorta but its like a reset as it will comeback to the login page no blue screen or win crash dump logs. even event viewer is bare however should i simply run a game in the background or put it through OCCT testing it never resets. this is an issue that has been plaguing me for at least a year or two i dont quite remember but it went away a month ago (no idea why) but now is back

inb4 new PSU ( tried that 2 times now with a brand spanking new 1000w psu did nothing but with the cables on the side it made cable management easier)

inb4 UPS tried that didn't work (but i know the UPS works because it kept my nas and other pc running from an outage the other day and both those loads are combined more than then this PCs 1000

again all is fine as long as i boot up a game in the background and let it run thats the only thing Ive seen prevent the weird loop from happening however id prefer not to just have my games running at all times

of the specs for now i will list a few

AMD Ryzen 9 5950X 16-Core Processor

128GB Ram Corsair i think cant really see all to well on account of the big and thicc be-quite fan

MSI MEG X570S ACE MAX

RX 6950 XT

SSD 850 EVO 500GB

5 other 2-4 tb drives from WD

more or less grasping for straws fully expect this to wither away with no clear answers for many years probably only getting a the Golden arrow answer after 10 years by which point it would be irrelevant but i thank you all for your time and consideration i admit i will be sluggish in updates

so i’ve had my pc for a little over 2 years now, i’ve not had any issues at all but the past few days i’ve been playing EAFC 24 and my PC will randomly just turn off whether i’m mid game or just sat idle in the menus. i have had zero trouble with restarts when i’m playing Warzone/MW3 for a few hours but anywhere from 5 minutes to 2 hours~ on EAFC and it will just shut off and turn itself back on.

i’ve tried: • making sure everything is pushed all the way in on motherboard • updating bios • making sure all my fans are running and it’s not a temp issue

i just find it weird it’s specifically only EAFC it’s been happening on, every other game i’ve played has run flawlessly, ofc it could still happen on another game but the fact it’s yet to is just weird.

just wondering if anyone has had any luck with fixing an issue like this.

Yesterday I wasn't doing anything just in the middle of a game (Overcooked 2) and out of no where my computer shut down and restart but when it restarted there was zero display yet the computer lights and fans all work. I swapped between 3 different working monitors which all showed no display, I swapped the ram sticks between each slot and used one at a time which still didn't work. I tried the hdmi and dp port on the mobo which didn't work. This is when I took the gpu out and used someones old radeon which actually got display so I was able to wipe the drivers. After doing this and putting the current gpu in it still didn't work which led me to believe it was the GPU. Well I tested with my old gpu (which is in right now) a gtx 980 and boom it didn't work again. Now it gets even crazier. I put the 980 into the second pcie slot and it works so I figured maybe its the mobo and not the gpu but then I tested the 7900xtx in the second slot and the display didn't work again. At this point I can do any tests within the pc, driver changes and anything but I still don't know what the problem is or even how to diagnose it at this point. I don't have money to throw around for a new parts especially if those parts seem to not even be broken. I do not have a second pc to test stuff on as well. I just got an old 550 ti from a friend and plugged it into my current setup to see if it would work. This is my very first build and was just excited to have a graphics card(I already have a newer one on the way). But when I went to boot it up, the VGA light came on. I made sure the GPU was seated properly, plugged into the power supply, and even unplugged it to see if the pc would run(my cpu has integrated graphics). But still I get the white VGA light regardless of the GPU is plugged in now or not, and I am getting frustrated… I need help!
