In app buttons missing when using Magic Keyboard

I feel dumb even having to ask this, but I just got a Magic Keyboard, and when its plugged in I see that certain on screen buttons are missing from apps that i use. For example, in my notes app and my writing app there used to be a button to add an image on the on-screen keyboard… but now since I’ve got a keyboard plugged in I can’t see those buttons anymore? How do I access them?

If I unplug my keyboard… those buttons pop up immediately. Thanks!
